Remember your Genius
Always remember to hang out in your Genius quadrant.
I bet you’re wondering what the heck that means, eh? Let me explain…A bunch of years back I wrote a blog post entitled Hang Out in Your Genius Quadrant. Basically it talks about four different quadrants: Genius, Very Competent, Competent, and Incompetent – if you think about any task that you do, work or otherwise, you should think about which of those quadrants it fits into, and in the end you should spend most of your time on the things that fall into your Genius quadrant and you’ll be much happier as a result.
Nowadays I think I would choose different words – “competent” just isn’t very inspiring – but the idea is the same and still very simple: spend your time doing the things that you love, the things that flow for you, the things that you feel energized doing. Makes sense, right?
Just recently this post was brought to my mind again during an online meeting with a gaggle of gals/fellow VAs. We were talking about recognizing, and spending your time working in, your own personal Genius. Sometimes for some reason we get caught up spending our time doing things that we really don’t like very much, and we’re so busy “doing” that we lose sight of those things we really love. So, every once an a while, we need to be reminded to hang out in our Genius quadrant.
So I challenge you to stop right now and have a look at your work, your life, and see if there are any changes that you can make so that you are indeed hanging out in your own personal Genius quadrant. You can make it happen!
